Product information on "Ilatraia" from the Brancaia winery
The nose is dominated by black cassis, dried blueberry, cigar box, cedar wood, dark chocolate, and fine roasted aromas. On the palate, the wine is dense, monumental, yet precise, with enormous structure, present, very fine-grained tannins, mineral tension, and an extremely long, noble finish.
A top wine for great moments of indulgence and discerning wine lovers.
Brancaia's Ilatraia is one of the most important red wines of Maremma and celebrates its 20th anniversary with the 2021 vintage. Since 2002, this cuvée has stood for artisanal perfection, uncompromising quality, and the unique terroir of the Tuscan coast. As Brancaia's flagship wine, Ilatraia impressively demonstrates how powerful and elegant Maremma can be at the same time.
The vineyards are located a few kilometers from the sun-drenched Mediterranean coast. The vines grow on weathered sandstone and barren clay soils at altitudes between 75 and 175 meters – ideal conditions for profound, multi-layered red wines. Brancaia cultivates all areas certified organically, works sustainably, and thus promotes the authenticity of this extraordinary terroir.
The cuvée consists of 40% Petit Verdot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc. Each grape variety contributes its own strength:
Petit Verdot provides structure and power,
Cabernet Sauvignon delivers depth and a long, elegant finish,
Cabernet Franc brings freshness, herbal spice, and finesse.
The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, half of which are new wood. Afterwards, the wine matures for at least another year in the bottle before being released for sale.
In the glass, the Ilatraia presents an impenetrable garnet red. The nose is complex and noble: black cassis, dried blueberries, cedar wood, graphite, cigar box, dark chocolate, and fine roasted aromas, accompanied by an elegant herbal note. On the palate, it is dense, precisely structured, and powerful, with silky tannins, spicy complexity, and a long, noble finish that impressively reflects its Maremma origin.
A great Supertuscan with character, depth, and elegance – and a story you can taste.
